In September 2023, BPCL announced the extension of its collaboration with IONAGE, a Bangalore-based eMobility service provider. This partnership builds upon BPCL’s successful BPC eDrive Initiative, launched in February 2022, and integrates BPCL’s EV chargers into IONAGE’s platform.

Pardeep Goyal, BPCL’s Business Head of Retail, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and said

“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with IONAGE, a dynamic leader in the eMobility space, as part of our commitment to building a sustainable and accessible EV charging infrastructure across India. At BPCL, accessibility and convenience of customers are of prime importance for the utilization of charging infra. Our collaboration with IONAGE will enable customers to utilize BPC chargers from IONAGE’s aggregation platform.”

Vimal Kumar, CEO of IONAGE, emphasized the goal of creating an ecosystem that meets the needs of all EV owners. He also added

“At IONAGE, our vision is to create a cohesive and comprehensive ecosystem that supports the needs of all-electric vehicle owners and operators. In line with this vision, we are happy to have extended our partnership with a robust and well-respected brand like BPCL. This is a significant step towards making EV charging more accessible and reliable across India.”

Current State of EV Charging in India

India currently has 12,146 operational public EV charging stations, with Maharashtra and Delhi leading in numbers. This rapid growth—640% in just two years—supports government efforts to electrify 30% of the fleet by 2030.

Key Statistics:

  • Maharashtra: 3,079 stations
  • Delhi: 1,886 stations
  • National Growth: From just a few thousand to over 12,000 stations in two years.

The BPCL and IONAGE partnership represents a promising advancement in making EV charging more accessible across India.
